The folks over at We Got This Covered reporting that Warner Bros. is developing a new live-action movie adaptation based on DC Comics’s character, John Constantine. Source tells the website that the studio is currently eyeing Colin Farrell to portray the British blue-collar warlock/occult detective. The source says the actor and the studio haven’t reached an agreement yet, but he’s the top choice as the project continues to develop.
Keanu Reeves played the character in 2005 live-action film Constantine. Matt Ryan played the character on NBC’s television series of the same name. The TV show was canceled after one season. Ryan later on reprise his role on The CW Seed’s Legends of Tomorrow, and in the animated film Justice League Dark. Reeves recently revealed that he always wanted to reprise his role as the occult detective.
John Constantine was created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette and John Totleben. The character first appeared in Swamp Thing vol. 2 no. 25 (June 1984), before getting his own comic books series Hellblazer (1988–2013).
