Marvel Studios announced during the Walt Disney Studios panel at this year’s D23 Expo, that Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) has been as Dane Whitman / Black Knight in the upcoming The Eternals movie.
Dane Whitman inherited a mystical sword that carried a curse and took the Black Knight mantle from his uncle, who was actually a supervillain and a member of the Masters of Evil. Black Knight has also been member of the Avengers’ various incarnations. In the comics Whitman is Sersi’s husband. Whitman was created by writer Roy Thomas, John Verpoorten and artist George Tuska. He first appeared in The Avengers #47 (December 1967).
The Eternals will be set millions of years ago focusing on The Celestials and Deviants with a focus on Ikaris and Sersi. The film will directed by Chloé Zhao. Matthew and Ryan Firpo will write the script for the film.
Created by Jack Kirby, The Eternals and The Deviants made their first appearance in The Eternals #1 (July 1976). The Eternals and The Deviants are an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth instigated by the alien Celestials.
The Eternals will star Angelina Jolie (Thena), Richard Madden (Icarus), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Lia McHugh (Sprite), and Don Lee (Gilgamesh).
