During DC FanDome online events last month, it was revealed that THE FLASH and THE BATMAN will both launch two different cinematic multiverses when they both released. Barbara Muschietti has revealed that THE FLASH movie based on DC Comics’ FLASHPOINT storyline “restarts everything and doesn’t forget anything.”
Barbara Muschietti made the reveal during a DC FanDome Fan Q&A sessions:
Well, I want you to go see it, so I’m not going to tell you a lot. But what I will tell you is that it’s a ride. It’s going to be fun and exciting and there are a lot of DC characters in it. Flash is the superhero of this film because he is the bridge between all of these characters and timelines. And in a way, it restarts everything and doesn’t forget anything.
Ezra Miller also appeared during the fan Q&A portion of DC FanDome devoted to The Flash movie and revealed that despite the tantalizing new concept art revealed during the previous DC FanDome event, he’s yet to see his new costume, let alone try it on. If things are this early in development, there’s even a small chance that the costume could undergo small tweaks.
At the end of Flashpoint, Barry Allen decides to go back in time and stop himself from saving his mother. His action ends up rebooting the entire DC Universe and form the New 52 continuity. With THE BATMAN movie taking place in a different universe, this makes it possible for Warner Bros to have multiples versions of their characters on the small and big screen. It was also revealed during the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event that both the DCTV and DCEU are connected.
Early this year Andrés Muschietti revealed that his movie will present a “different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting”. The director revealed yesterday at FanDome that his movie won’t be light or dark in tone, but will include everything instead.
My Flash is not gonna be light or dark in tone. It’s gonna have everything. If you saw my previous movies like It and It 2, you’ll know that I like to put everything in it. So what you’ll see in Flash is a very deep emotional story, but it’s also gonna be very funny hopefully and a great, epic adventure at the same time. And also terrifying sometimes. So that’s my answer. Get ready.
Ezra Miller also revealed during the fan Q&A portion of DC FanDome that his yet to see The Flash suit. He also hinted that the suit could be different than the one we saw during the event in August.
I have yet to see it. But I’ve heard some things about it and they’re extremely exciting. There’ll be some twists- in some ways, I believe it will be a more traditional, comic-based costume but in other ways, it might be somewhat unconventional. I’ve heard it might be lighter than my last suit as an example of some of the changes. I’m not sure how much I can say.
Flashpoint was adapted into an animated feature film titled “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox“. The animated movie was released on July 30, 2013. The CW also adapted the storyline in the 3rd season of the network’s television series of The Flash.
Muschietti (It: Chapter 2) will direct the movie. Ezra Miller made his first appearance as The Flash in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, followed by Suicide Squad. He made his official debut as Barry Allen/The Flash in 2017’s Justice League movie.
The Flash movie is expected to begin filming in 2021 and has a JUN 2022 release date attached to it. Micheal Keaton will reprise his role as Batman in the movie.
