Marvel Studios has resumed production on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Australia and now reports have revealed the role THE MANDARIN will play in the movie. According to an exclusive from MCU Cosmic, The Mandarin will act as a mentor figure for Shang-Chi at the start of the film. This will fit recent rumors which suggested that Shang-Chi will have worked for The Mandarin when at the beginning of the movie, or the pair will be father and son. It also says that Fin Fang Foom will be awakened in the movie after a trio of wizards who are tasked with keeping dormant is taken out. However, they didn’t by who and why.
Destin Creston is directing Marvel Studios’ first Asian lead superhero movie with Chinese-American writer Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2) set to pen the screenplay. The MCU movie stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, alongside Tony Leung as The Mandarin.
Shang-Chi is a master of martial arts and an expert in various hand weapons. He also has the ability to create duplicates of himself. Shang-Chi was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin. The character first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 (December 1973).
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is currently scheduled for release in May of 2021.
