Another God is making his way to the MCU. Russell Crowe reveals in an interview with Australian radio station Joy 94.9 that he will play the role of Zeus, the Olympian God, in Thor: Love and Thunder. However, the actor did not reveal if his character will be based on the Greek god.
This is a huge reveal and could give Marvel Studios the possibility to expand its Universe. We know Zeus has strong ties with Asgard and The Eternal, which could be the connection between both movies and possibly encourage Marvel and Disney to move forward with a crossover movie. This is also another way Marvel Studio could finally introduce Hercules, Zeus’ son. Hercules was one of the characters that played a major in Secret Invasion and a member of The Mighty Avengers. Marvel and Disney are already developing a Secret Invasion series for Disney+, and last year there were rumors that Kevin Feige wanted to feature the character in a Disney Plus show.
Talking about Zeus, we know the king of Olympia is as powerful as Galactus, the Celestials, the Stranger, and Odin. Zeus was voiced by Travis Willingham in the Thor segment of The Marvel Super Heroes show. It will be interesting to see how the character will take part in the events o the film.
Thor: Love and Thunder will adapt the Mighty Thor comic book story and will see Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster takes on the mantle and powers of Thor. The MCU Phase Four movies star Chris Hemsworth as Thor, alongside Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Jeff Goldblum.
Taika Waititi is directing the film. Waititi also co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. The movie is scheduled to be released May 6, 2022.
