Hasbro Global Brand Development and Marketing Manager Beth Bamrick has revealed that the company planning to reboot the Power Rangers films universe. However, Bamrick said Hasbro isn’t rushing in developing the project.
So I can’t comment as much as everyone would love me too on the movie per se, but what I will say is we’re really looking at every opportunity. We are planning two and three years out, so we do have a lot in the pipeline, but we have a lot to get to first like we talked about. We kind of just took it on, so we will definitely have more to come. It’s top of mind with us as well as we kind of think about where we want to bring the brand next but again, I think it’s…we do have some plans that are out there which we’ll be excited to share with you when we can, but yeah we’re definitely looking at it like a 2 to 3 year approach in everything that we’re doing.
Last year Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed that the company will be releasing a sequel to the 2017 Power Rangers movie after they acquired the rights from Saban Brands for $522 million.
Power Rangers’ will generate an operating profit similar to Hasbro’s other franchise brands and has a “significant opportunity for growth given where the brand had been most recently,” Goldner said. Hasbro will work with a film studio to develop a new Power Rangers movie as a follow-up to the 2017 release. In addition to Power Rangers, Hasbro also acquired Saban properties including My Pet Monster, Luna Petunia, Popples and Julius Jr.
The latest Power Rangers movie was produced by Lionsgate and earned $142.3 million internationally on an estimated $100 million production budget.
The show first produced by Toei Company aired in Japan in 1975 as “tokusatsu Super Sentai,” and later received an American remark “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,” by Saban Entertainment and aired on the Fox Kids network from 1993 to 2001.
