Popeye: Tartakovsky developing an animated feature project.

Animation Magazine is reporting that  Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack creator, Genndy Tartakovsky, is working on a Popeye animated feature in collaboration with King Features.

Tartakovsky was first developing the Popeye animated feature with Sony Pictures Animation. The company even planned to release the project in 2012. However, the project was scrapped after it went through management changes, but not before Tartakovsky released a concept trailer(See below).

Created by Elzie Crisler Segar, Popeye first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929. The first Popeye theatrical cartoon series was released in 1933. The shorts were created by Max Fleischer s for Paramount Pictures. Popeye has also appeared in comic books, television cartoons, and video games.
