Pokémon Koko: Director Tetsuo Yajima shares new key visual.

Early this week it was revealed that Tetsuo Yajima will be returning to direct the 23rd anime film the Pokemon franchise “Pokémon Koko” or “Gekijōban Pocket Monster Koko“. To commemorate the announcement the director took to Twitter shared a poster art illustration of the new movie.

TOHO announced the film last year as part of its 2020 theatrical release lineup. Pokémon movie will be the franchise’s new anime film for the first time in two years. Yajima is directing and co-writing the film’s script with Pokémon series writer Atsuhiro Tomioka. Gekijōban Pocket Monsters 2020 will open in Japan on July 10.

The most recent films include the live-action Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and  The 3D CG remake of the 1998 film Pocket Monsters: Mewtwo no Gyakushū Mewtwo, Strikes Back Evolution. The last anime film in the franchise, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us, was released in Japan in July 2018.

Pokémon (Pocket Monsters) anime series premiered in Japan on April 1, 1997, on TV Tokyo. The anime television series is part of The Pokémon Company’s Pokémon media franchise. The franchise has a total of 22 films, with Strikes Back Evolution being the latest.
