Nezha anime film about a boy from Hindu, Chinese mythology and ancient Chinese literature has grossed over 1.5 billion Yuan (21.7 million USD) since its premiere on July 26 at the Chinese box office, making it the most highest-grossing Chinese animated movie of all time!
The anime movie surpassed Disney’s Zootopia and Pixar’s Coco to become the highest-grossing animated film ever in China while also beating Disney’s The Lion King which is currently smashing box office records.
According to online ticket platform Maoyan, the film directed by 39-year-old , Yang Yu, could gross over 3.5 billion yuan by the end of its run. Which means Nezha would easily topple Disney and Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” 2 billion yuan and including Chinese-made sci-fi flick “The Wandering Earth.”
Nezha is a little boy who fought evil dragons and killed himself as a statement to his parents, then later was brought back to life by his deity mentor and was reborn from a lotus flower with three heads and six arms, eventually becoming a deity himself.
Nezha became popular in 1979’s film “Nezha Conquers the Dragon King “. Nezha has appear in numerous media projects, including television series and video games.
