Now that Warner Bros. and DC Comics have agreed to release the Snyder Cut, THR has release some info about the possible format of the project. According to the site, the Zack Snyder cut of the Justice League will either be a 4-hour movie or 6-episode series. The project will cost estimated between $20M-30M. Snyder also revealed that he has never seen the theatrical version of the Justice League.
The Batman vs Superman director announced during his Man of Steel watch party today that his edit of the Justice League film will be released on HBO Max in 2021.
I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality. Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. This could never have happened if it weren’t for the hard work and combined efforts of the teams at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer.
Snyder stepped down to deal with the death of his daughter. The Avenger’s director Joss Whedon was hired to oversee the completion of post-production, including directing additional scenes written by himself.
Snyder’s version of the Justice League is rumored to be better than the theatrical version released by Warner Bros in 2017. Justice League bombed at the box office grossing around $657 million, with Warner Bros. reportedly losing $60 million. With an estimated production budget of $300 million, Justice League is one of the most expensive films ever made.
