Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther ) will star in the film centered around the story of Yasuke, the Black Samurai. The film will be written by Doug Miro (Narco) with Boseman producing along side Erik Feig, Michael De Luca, Stephen L’Heureux, and Logan Coles. Variety is reporting.
Yasuke (b. c. 1555–1590 CE) served under the Japanese hegemon and warlord Oda Nobunaga in 1581 and 1582. He’s the only known person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai. He was famous for his height, strength and extremely dark skin color. He was captured with Oda Nobunaga by the army of Akechi Mitsuhide in 1582. According to legends Akechi freed him and ordered his troop to Yasuke at Christian church but there’s no other record of him after he was captured.
