Mortal Kombat animated movie in the development.

Warner Bros. has revealed that a Mortal Kombat original animated feature film is in the works. The film called “Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge” will be directed by Ethan Spaulding (Batman: Assault On Arkham) from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams (Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans).

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will star Joel McHale as Johnny Cage, Jennifer Carpenter as Sonya Blade, Jordan Rodrigues as Lui Kang, Patrick Seitz as Scorpion and Hanzo Hasashi, Steve Blum as Sub-Zero, Artt Butler as Shang Tsung, Darin De Paul as Quan Chi, Robin Atkin Downes as Kano, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Ike Amadi as Jax Briggs, Kevin Michael Richardson as Goro, Grey Griffin as Kitana and Satoshi Hasashi, and Fred Tatasciore as Demon Torturer. The film will be produced by Rick Morales (Batman: Return Of The Caped Crusaders) and Jim Krieg (Batman: Gotham By Gaslight). Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon will serve as a creative consultant on the project.

There are no details about the animated movie yet but judging by the title, the film will b based on Scorpion. In the game, Scorpion is an undead ninja specter seeking revenge for his death at the hands of Sub-Zero and was survived by a wife and child. He’s one of the original seven playable characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise.

The first Mortal Kombat was released in 1992, the video game was originally developed by Midway Games. The latest entry of franchise is Mortal Kombat 11 released on May 10, 2019, for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The franchise received an animated series adaptation, Mortal Kombat: Defenders Of The Realm, released in 1996.
