Disney allegedly contemplating developing a Luke Skywalker movie as a way to redeem the Star Wars franchise. According to Doomcock from the Overlord DVD YouTube channel, the Luke Skywalker movie would star Mark Hamill will take place the Return of the Jedi event.
“In addition to this, I am told they are contemplating a new Luke Skywalker movie set ten years after Return of the Jedi set in The Mandalorian timeline,” says Doomcock. “Recasting Luke Skywalker is not an option here. If Mark Hamill wouldn’t do the movie, they would scrap it and move on.”
Another report recently revealed that Mark Hamill has signed a new deal for more Star Wars. The source says the deal includes the possibility that Disney may go with new CGI technology for live-action films. This means Disney still has the option of using CGI technology to de-age Hamill as a young Skywalker. Back in May, LucasFilm hired Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok) to direct and co-write a new live-action Star Wars feature film for theatrical release.
Apart from The Mandalorian, the company is also developing a series based on Cassian Andor’s life prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and an Obi-Wan Kenobi which will take place between Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: A New Hope. Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) is working on a new untitled Star Wars series for Disney+.
