Lionsgate planning a Hunger Games prequel movie based on Suzanne Collins’ new untitled novel scheduled for release May 19, 2020. The news was revealed by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman , Joe Drake.

“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie,” Joe Drake said in a statement on Monday.

The new Hunger Games novel will be set 64 years before the original Hunger Games novel series and will explore the 10 years reconstruction period of Panem after the war.

“With this book, I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are and what we perceive is required for our survival. The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days — as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet — provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

The film was released on March 21, 2012. The second film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, was released on November 22, 2013, followed by The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 November 21, 2014, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 November 20, 2015. Collins released The Hunger Games in 2008, Catching Fire in 2009, and Mockingjay In 2010.
