Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid wrapped up shooting on Monday and with it came our first look at Halle Bailey as Ariel. The image was posted by Bailey, who took to her official social account to announce that production on the film directed by Rob Marshall has wrapped. The image posted seems to be a shot showing Ariel’s mermaid form.
On an Instagram post, Bailey expressed gratitude for being cast as Ariel and for her co-stars, including Jonah Haur-King (Prince Eric), Jacob Tremblay (Flounder), Melissa McCarthy (Ursula), Daveed Diggs (Sebastian).
“and just like that..that’s a wrap,” Bailey wrote on Instagram. “after auditioning for this film when i was 18 just about to turn 19 , to now finishing filming through a pandemic when i turned 21 ..we have finally made it… i feel so grateful to have experienced this film in all of its glory..it has been the toughest experience being away from everything and everyone i’ve ever known, to feeling self doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as i’ve reached the end. this experience has made me so much stronger than i ever thought i could be.”
Not much is known about Disney’s live-action Little Mermaid, except that the live-action adaptation will feature music from the animated classic as well as four new songs. Bailey stars alongside Jonah-Hauer King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
