Netflix began streaming the official trailer for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, the new 3D CG Ghost in the Shell anime based on Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell manga. The anime will be available for stream worldwide on Netflix this April. Additionally, a promo key visual for the anime was also released.
Production I.G. president, Maki Terashima-Furuta, revealed during an interview with the Nuke the Fridge Gaming YouTube channel at Comic-Con International: San Diego 2018 that Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) will both direct each season respectively. The anime each season will have 12-episode and will feature returning cast from the previous anime.
Dreamworks and Paramount’s live-action film adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson opened in the United States in March 2017 and opened in Japan in April 2017. The story follows the fictional counter-cyberterrorist organization Public Security Section 9, led by protagonist Major Motoko Kusanagi, in the mid-21st century of Japan.
Shirow first debuted the manga series in 1989 under the subtitle of The Ghost in the Shell, and later published as of its own tankōbon volumes by Kodansha. Ghost in the Shell anime film was first released in 1995. An anime series adaptation by Production I.G titled “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” in 2002 and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence films in 2004 followed by Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie in 2015.
