Disney still needs to greenlit the new TRON Movie.

Lion and Mary Magdalene Oscar-nominee director Garth Davis, has tapped to helmet Jared Leto’s TRON movie for Disney. Davis‘s film will not be a direct sequel to 2010’s “Tron: Legacy” and 1982’s “Tron,” Variety has confirmed. The TRON movie will be a new installment in the franchise. Insiders tell Deadline that “insiders say Davis aggressively pursued the job, eventually winning over execs.

Davis will direct the film from a screenplay by The Crow reboot’s Jesse Wigutow. Jared Leto will allegedly play a new character named “Ares.” Leto also is producing the film along with Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook. Davis coming on board seems to give hope that the project might be moving forward, however, the film has yet tobe greenlight.
