Baki’s new spinoff manga series will focus on the Chinese Kenpo fighter Retsu Kaioh. The latest issue of Akita Shoten’s Monthly Shōnen Champion magazine announced the character will have spinoff Isekai manga series title Baki Gaiden – Retsu Kaioh Isekai Tensei Shitemo Ikkō Kamawan! (Baki Side Story – Retsu Kaioh Doesn’t Mind Even if It’s in Another World).
Keisuke Itagaki and Sai Ihara writing the new manga original story and Eiji Murai is drawing the manga. The manga will see Retsu Kaioh reincarnated into another world.
Written and illustrated by Keisuke Itagaki, Baki the Grappler was originally serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion from 1991 to 1999. The manga series received three sequels; Baki (New Grappler Baki: In Search of Our Strongest Hero) ran from 1999 to 2005, Baki Hanma ( Baki: Son of Ogre) from 2005 to 2012 , and Baki-Dou from 2014 to 2018. A new Baki Dou is currently being serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion. The series was launched on October 4, 2018.
Netflix recently announced that the third season of Baki anime series will be based on Itagaki’s Baki Hanma 3rd manga series, Hanma Baki – Son of Ogre. The streaming service original net animation (ONA) first season was released between June to December 2018. The series’s second cour aired in March 2019. Baki Season 2 covered the “Great Raitai Tournament Saga and Kami no Ko Gekitotsu arc of the manga. The season aired on June 4, 2020.
