New character breakdown for a Marvel Studio set to start filming in Australia this fall, has teased the appearance of the Mandarin and one of his female accomplice in “Shang Chi” or “Master of Kung Fu “i live-action movie.
The first casting allegedly looking for an Asian actor between the ages of 40 & 60 to play a “wise, old statesman,” who is “the leader of his people” and a female Asian actress, in her 30s or 40s who is “one of the leader’s most skilled warriors”. This could be The Mandarin and of one is 10 Rings members.
Destin Creston will direct the Marvel Studios’ first Asian lead superhero movie with Chinese-American writer Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2) set to pen the screenplay for film.
Shang-Chi was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin. The character first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 (December 1973). Shang-Chi is also highly trained in the martial arts and is an expert in various hand weapons including swords, staves, kali sticks, nunchaku, and shuriken. He also has the ability to create countless duplicates of himself.
