Star Trek 4 director Noah Hawley has just confirmed that we won’t be seeing the “Kelvin Timeline” Enterprise crew return for the new film. Hawley has revealed in an interview with Variety that they are doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard, confirming that his film wouldn’t revolve around any familiar faces.
We’re not doing Kirk and we’re not doing Picard. It’s a start from scratch that then allows us to do what we did with Fargo, where for the first three hours you go, ‘Oh, it really has nothing to do with the movie,’ and then you find the money. So you reward the audience with a thing that they love.
The director told Deadline early this year that he has his own take on Star Trek and going back to what he loved about the series Next Generation. He also added that he will be respectful of the underlying material.
According to the director, the film script is complete, however, Star Trek 4 won’t start production any time as the film currently remains on hold.
