Blue Beetle series reportedly coming to HBO Max

Geoff Johns recently revealed that a Green Lantern series was being developed for HBO Max. It now looks like more DC Comics contents will be coming to the streaming service. According to Daniel Richtman, DC Comics and HBO are developing a series based on the Blue Beetle for the streaming service. No further information was revealed as the series is still in the early stage of development.

The first Beetle was Dan Garrett was created by Fox Comics and later owned by Charlton Comics. Garrett gained superpowers after taking a special vitamin. It was later changed to gaining powers from a “sacred scarab”. The second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, was created by Charlton Comics. DC Comics later acquired the right to the character after it had taken over Charlton Comics. Kord was introduced in the DC Universe during the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths alongside a number of other Charlton Comics characters. Kord became a member of the Justice League of America before being killed during DC Comics’ Infinite Crisis cross over. The third Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes, was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hamner for DC Comics. Reyes made his first appearance in Infinite Crisis #3 (February 2006) after he discovered the original Blue Beetle scarab morphed. Reyes went on to become a member of the Teen Titans and starred in two Blue Beetle comic series. Reyes was reintroduced the “New 52” reboot as the primary Blue Beetle. The previous two versions were later restored in “DC Rebirth” continuation.
