The Journey anime film revealed at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday a key visual. The movie is collaboration between Toei Animation and Saudi Arabian media company Manga Productions.
The anime film is being directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan films) with a script from Atsuhiro Tomioka (Pokémon films). Tatsurō Iwamoto (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney game series) is in charge of character designs, and Kaoru Wada (Ninja Scroll, Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, InuYasha, Ace Attorney) will compose the music.
“What we are doing here with ‘The Journey’ is representative of our larger role in creating an ecosystem throughout Saudi Arabia and the Arab world in which young talents are given opportunities and are supported, and high-quality work representing our culture is produced,” he added,” Manga Productions CEO Bukhary Essam told Variety.
The Journey is epic based on Saudi folklore. The anime film will have 90-minute runtime. The film has no release date yet.
