J.J. Abrams and Paramount producing the Hollywood live-action make.

Early this year we reported that a Hollywood live-action movie adaptation based on the YOUR NAME anime film was being developed by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Paramount. THR is reporting that Lee Isaac Chung has been brought on board to direct the movie replacing Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-ManThe Amazing Spider-Man 2).

Chung will also rewrite the screenplay from previous draft by Emily V. Gordon and Arriva Eric Heisserer. Your Name Makoto Shinkai recently revealed that he had approved the scripts for the live-action Hollywood.

I’ve basically tried to leave it all to JJ Abrams and to [his production company] Bad Robot but he does send me the script and ask for my opinion on that, so I have that kind of input,” Shinkai tells Fandom.

I really want to see what they come up with; what happens when my film comes into contact with new talent. I’m just looking forward to seeing it as a member of the audience.

I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with it. I know there will always be some people who say that the original is better. But I find it fascinating and I’m half hoping that they’ll do a better job than I did.

Crunchyroll reported that the live action remake would “follow a Native American girl living in a rural area and a boy from Chicago”.

Your Name is the highest-grossing anime film and Japanese film of all time, the fourth-highest-grossing film of all time in Japan, the ninth-highest-grossing traditionally animated film. The film won the Best Animated Feature Film award at the 49th annual Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain. The film surpassed Ghibli and Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, and Ponyo.
