It’s really happening! Cartoon Network series announced on Monday that The Powerpuff Girls will be receiving a live-action. The new television series is being developed by The CW. The Powerpuff Girls TV series will be created by Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden serving as executive producers. The project is a collaboration between Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros.

Created by Craig McCracken, The Powerpuff Girls’ original animated series ran for six seasons and 78 episodes between 1998 and 2005. The series received an animated film in 2002. Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were accidentally created by Professor Utonium combining sugar, spice, and everything nice with the mysterious Chemical X. The live-action TV show will see the one-time child heroes as disillusioned twentysomethings now regretting having spent their youth fighting criminals, a difficult situation as the world needs them to come together and save the day once again.
