According to reports, the television anime series adaptation of Yasuhisa Hara’s Kingdom manga will return for a third season. The anime show first season premiered in 2012, another season premiered in 2013. Both seasons were produced by Studio Pierrot but receive criticism for it animation and lack of action. So far no details have been made public yet.
Sony Pictures Japan is allegedly developing three more movies. Kingdom live-action movie adaptation grossed over 5 billion Yen at the Japanese box office. Shinsuke Satō directed the first movie which opens in theaters in April. The manga series inspired a three-minutes live-action short in 2016 to celebrate the manga’s 10th anniversary. In addition, the sequel will go into production this winter.
Kingdom is written and illustrated by Hara. The manga series originated from two one-shots Hara drew on Li Mu and Meng Wu. The manga launched in Weekly Young Jump magazine on January 26, 2006.
