It has been announced that the upcoming television anime series adaptation of Q Hayashida’s Dorohedoro manga series will have 12 episodes plus an original video anime that will be approximately 30 minutes long. The anime series begins to broadcast in Japan on January 12, 2020. It will also stream worldwide on Netflix.

In addition, four cover art illustrations for the anime Blu-ray BOX were also released. The illustrations were drawn by Hayashida and the anime series character designer, Tomohiro Kishi. The box will be released on May 20, 2020.

In a city so dismal it’s known only as “the Hole,” a clan of Sorcerers have been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious “experiments” in the black arts. In a dark alley, Nikaido found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia. To undo the spell, they’re hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they’ll kill the right one. But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of “cleaners” into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds.

Studio MAPPA will produce the Dorohedoro anime. Garo the Animation and Kakegurui‘s Yuichiro Hayashi will direct the series with scripts by Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Mob Psycho 100, Vinland Saga). Tomohiro Kishi (91 Days, Garo -Vanishing Line) is designing the characters.

Q Hayashida launched the manga series in Shogakukan‘s Monthly Ikki magazine in 1999. The manga ended in Monthly Shonen Sunday’s October issue in September 2018. The anime series begins to broadcast in Japan on January 12, 2020. It will also stream worldwide on Netflix.
