Sunrise has announced at Anime Expo on Friday that the studio is developing an AKIRA a television anime series. In addition, the studio is also producing an anime film with Akira movie director Katsuhiro Otomo titled “Orbital Rise”. The anime series will adapt the entire manga’s story.
Warner Bros.’ is developing a two parts live-action film adaptation of the manga with the director, Taika Waititi. Michael Golamco (‘Always Be My Maybe’) will co-write the screenplay with Taika Waititi.
The live-action films will be based on Otomo manga instead of the 1988 classic sci-fi with each film covering three books in the series. Production on the movie is set to begin August 19th.
Otomo Launch Akira manga series in Young Magazine from 1982 until 1990. The manga received an anime film adaptation directed by Katsuhiro Otomo himself, produced by Ryōhei Suzuki and Shunzō Katō and written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto. Akira is considered to be one of the greatest animated and science fiction movies of all time.
